THE MULTI-MODE TECHNIQUE FOR AERODYNAMIC INSTABILITY ANALYSIS OF A LONG SUSPENSION BRIDGE

Flutter and buffeting responses are extremely important topics in the design of long-span bridges. This study presents the numerical analysis and numerical results of flutter and buffeting responses of suspension bridge by using the multimode analysis technique. The flutter speed of suspension bridge is evaluated by solving an eigenvalue problem. The
buffeting response is carried out by using a standard random vibration analysis. The effect of some important parameters such as the mean wind speed, variation coefficients of the multiplying factors associated with damping, and flutter derivatives is investigated. The results of the study show that the reliability against flutter failure and buffeting responses are sensitive to the variation of the above parameters.
