A STUDY OF WASTE HEAT UTILIZATION TO PRODUCE ELECTRICITY BY USING STIRLING ENGINE

This paper studies the use of Stirling engine as a means to utilize the waste heat from automobiles and motorbikes
to generate electricity. Released smoke from vehicles and motorbikes during their working cycles will be led to a newly designed
Stirling engine to create rotary movement to turn an electrical generator. In this way, electricity will be produced and then stored
in a battery system. The highest reported energy recovery efficiency of this experiment system is 1.284%. The research has also
developed an equation system for calculating heat amount from the released smoke of a normal motorbike engine which is
available in the market; and designing parameters of a Stirling engine which are relevant to the calculation results. A small-scale
Stirling engine model has also been manufactured for experiments and a software program has been created to facilitate the
calculation process.
