Geometry—Plane and Solid is designed to be a clear, teachable, yet challenging text fulfilling the generally accepted objectives of teaching geometry. Essentially these objectives are
(1) to develop an understanding of the meaning and nature of proof.
(2) to teach the process of deductive reasoning in mathematical and non- mathematical situations.
(3) to develop an understanding of plane and space relationships.
(4) to provide opportunities for original and creative thinking.
(5) to develop an appreciation of the power of mathematics.
(6) to extend and strengthen mathematics vocabulary.
To help achieve these objectives, the recommendations of The College Entrance Examination Board, The Commission of Mathematics, and the Reports of the Curriculum Committee of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics were examined and considered in selecting and organizing the contents of this book.
