The individual marrige and the family Lloyd Saxton

This book was conceived as an answer to these informational gaps and as a theoretical and practical guide to the role interaction, power structure, conflict adjustment, and need fulfillments of dating, mating, and familial relations. In examining the relational needs and behavior of the individual in our society, I have tried to avoid the misleading pulp-magazine prose of some texts in this field, the prissy subjectiveness of others, and the meaningless sociological and psychological jargon of still others. I have attempted to treat sex and the biology of the family objectively; role adjustment and personality theory practically; and social-class data and sociological theory and research informationally. If I have been successful, students should complete this book with new insight into themselves and with new and workable approaches to their relations with others. Moreover, instructors should find this book a useful tool in meeting the chal¬lenge of moving their students along the path of self-actualization —toward an emotionally mature, competent, and creative life.
