We've tended to use more of the dinner dishes, a good number of which are simple, very tasty, and don't call for many hard-to-find ingredients. As one who grew up in a NYC Chinese immigrant family with a maternal grandfather who I was told was a highly regarded restaurant head chef, and a mother who was diligent about learning from him and experimenting, my own cooking experience with this book says that my present immediate family enjoys a fair number of good to very good recipes. Recipes can be flexible, so if one leaves out a minor/non-critical component or two (e.g. a vegetable, or don't include noodles, substitute similar, etc.), the dish can still be very good.
Everyone's tastes is different, but I'd highly recommend some of our regularly made favorite recipes from the book:
Stirred-fired Pork with Lychees
Pork and Vegetable Stir-fry
Stir-fried Pork with Vegetable
Oriental Beef
Stirred-fried Lamb with Spring Onions
Paper-thin Lamb with Spring Onions
Spicy Chicken Stir-fry
Stir-fried Sweet and Sour Chicken (without the noodles)
Chicken and Cashew Nut Stir-fry (we substitute unsalted dry roasted peanuts we always have around)
Shanghai Noodle with Lap Cheong
Singapore Noodles
