Plant Taxonomy: Methods and principles

Harvey Monroe Hall in America and G. Turesson in Europe introduced a new era in taxonomy of plants. Hall sought to reflect the evolution of species in formulation of systems for their classifica¬tion. He believed evolution to be based upon the physiological adjustment of the organism, the measurable result of which is seen in morphological and histological adaptations, and he argued that the taxonomist of the future would think in terms of evolutionary processes, treating morphological criteria as dynamic rather than static.
