This paper represents about overvoltage protection againts surge transients
caused by lightning on telephone lines. Most of common surge protection components
are introduced. Especially, Thyristor surge protection device. Reaction characteristics of
Gas discharge tube and Thyristor are simulated under diffirent lightning wareforms and
amplitudes. Telecom standards for customer premise equipment and central office are
included.
