General genetics

Given the many advances in genetics during the past dozen years, and its ever broader implications, the present book inevitably contains a great deal of new material. Anyone who compares this edition with the earlier will note significant changes. Among those that are immediately striking is the increased emphasis on studies with bacteria, bacteriophage, and certain of the fungi. Organisms that once were exotics in reference to genetic study are now com­ mon research objects whose special experimental attributes have permitted many of the major advances of recent years.
