General biology

General Biology reflects an approach to the study of life that has resulted from the explosive increase in research in the fields of biochemistry and biophysics during the last fifteen years. A major change in biology has been a shift in emphasis from structural and taxonomic studies to analytical investigation of (1) cell and organism dynamics, (2) evolution and adaptation of organisms, and (3) the interdependence and relationships of living things. General Biology attempts to integrate these three themes into one textbook suitable for first year college students.
