Đề cương chi tiết môn học Ngôn ngữ học xã hội (Sociolinguistics) - Ngành Sư phạm tiếng Anh

Học phần này được thiết kế dành cho sinh viên năm 4 chuyên ngành Tiếng Anh tại trường Đại học Sư phạm Kỹ thuật TP. HCM. Học phần nhằm cung cấp cho sinh viên kiến thức về bản chất xã hội của ngôn ngữ, cách ngôn ngữ được sử dụng trong những bối cảnh khác nhau ở những nền văn hóa khác nhau và giúp sinh viên thấy được tầm quan trọng của ngôn ngữ trong giao tiếp và truyền đạt thông tin. Ngoài ra, học phần còn giải thích các vần đề liên quan đến phương ngữ, biến thể, ngôn ngữ đơn giản hóa (pidgin) và hiện tượng đổi ngôn ngữ (code-switching). Các ứng dụng của môn học trong thực hành giảng dạy và phát triển chương trình đào tạo cũng được thảo luận trong khóa học.

Language and society are interrelated and interdependent with one another as society is the environment for language to be initiated and developed. This course is to explore the nature of language and its relationship to societies. The relationships between sociolinguistics views, language teaching and learning are also investigated. Students are encouraged to demonstrate a research-based view of why and how language is used to inform educational practice that positively engages with multiple linguistics communities and varieties.

Investigations into some of the ways in which language is actually used in context in different cultures are explored. Issues such as dialect, variety, pidgin, code-switching, and identity are investigated. The emphasis is on understanding and describing how people actually make use of the language and how this impacts on communication and miscommunication. Some of the theoretical and practical issues in the investigation of authentic language use are tackled. The practical implications for teachers and language curriculum developers are also examined.
