A short history of genetics

This boox had its genesis in a course of three lectures, The Hideyo Noguchi Lectures, delivered at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, in March, 1964. The purpose of the lectures was to give some idea of the main lines of thought in genetics from the time of Mendel until about 1939. Even with such restriction to genetics in its "classical" period, it was still necessary to be severely selective. Only major principles could be touched on; applications in agriculture and medicine, even normal human genetics could be barely mentioned. Certain important aspects, including cytoplasmic heredity, were left out entirely.
