Blade design and numerical testing of a small wind turbine in low wind speed conditions

The largest problems for small wind turbines, operating at low wind speed includes the unstable wind conditions and the generation of laminar flow separation and laminar separation bubbles on the wind turbine blades due to the low Reynolds ( Re ) number. Thus, the power coefficient ( Cp ) of small wind turbines is lower than the Cp of large wind turbines. Using and comparing among four airfoils, consisting of SD7062, SG6043, S809 and E387, which are suitable to the working conditions of small wind turbines, four wind turbine blades were designed to achieve gigher effciency at a low wind speed range of 3-7 m/s
